Best Far Infrared Heater?

dpestun
I was hoping a few folks might care to weigh in on the best brand of
Far Infrared techonlogy in terms of heating a room. I am
electronically sensitive and am hoping a far infrared heater will not
only help me feel better but may even save me a bit of money heating my
home for the rest of the winter. I want either one that heats
approximately 1,000 square feet or a few that each heat 200-300 square
feet. Thanks so much!!!!

I've tried some of the infrared heaters sold in hardware stores
(the ones which glow orange, both with and without a parabolic
dish), and found them to be intolerable. The best luck I've
had is with an oil-filled radiator, and I even then I had to try a
second brand of these because the first brand offgassed a smell
that I could never get used to (and never seemed to go away
completely)

Following up on that question with a more general question --
what sorts of space heaters work best for people here?
There is a wide variety of space heater technology
available, although I seem to do best with the more
old-fashioned methods...

I concur with what Mark says about the type of infrared heater he is talking about. The ones with the parabolic dish that glow feel good for awhile but I became sensitive to it and couldn't tolerate it toward the end of the winter last year. I use the infrared heaters with the infra red bulbs that are in a metal box that can come inside a cabinet and looks like an end table. They have a blower fan in them. I am not sensitive to these.

Same here--more old fashioned, generally, the better.  I could not use oil-filled, parabolic, or some of the mycothermic ones.  Out-gassing was a problem for most.  Parabolics were too ES problematic.  My dad has natural gas and other electric ones that I cannot be around at all and they are2 or 3 years old.  I am now using a mycothermic which causes ES, but I can direct the fins (move the unit) in various directions to divert emfs away from me.  It even diverts outside emfs from the windows!  So, I DO react to these, but if I am careful how I place them they can work.  I had no off-gassing from the ones I now use in my other house, but had great out-gassing from another mycothermic heater that was loaned to me.  I don't know the name of the brand off hand because I am not at the other house, but can get it if someone is interested in that info.  I bought them at Target.  3 of them heat about 1000 sq ft down to around 20 degrees F, but I
also have a 4th in the basement.  Below 20 F, the temps begin dropping, but they held the house at 65F at a 15 degree low one night.  (I have no other heating in that house at this time.)

My 2 cents,
Diane

Re: Best Far Infrared Heater?

Hi, All,

I take back what I said about the mycothermic space heaters that I have in my other house.  I cannot sleep in that house (tried since I wrote the former post), and it is possible it is the heaters which are causing all/most of the ES I have there at night.  I wrote that the heaters heat the space well and that moving the heaters various directions divert emfs, and this is true.  But when I lay down there, I still am having theold familiar vibrations (badly) I get from emfs.  I assume, since I can get emfs off of these if they are pointed in the wrong direction, that they are the culprits.  When it is warm enough to check this at night by unplugging them, I will test to make sure.  But there is no doubt these do put some emfs into the atmosphere (that was why I had to change the directions of the unit).

Sorry and hope I did not lead anyone amiss on this subject,
Diane

Re: Best Far Infrared Heater?

Hi, Andrew,

I don't know the name brand of the one my Dad has, but it looks like this.  Not sure it is the same tho.  It had horrible outgassing and I was still reacting to it months after they got it.  (If I remember, I will ask to try it again when I next visit and see if it EVER stopped outgassing andwhat type heater and brand it was.)  It was very expensive comparativelyspeaking, as well.

My 2 cents,
Diane
