Hi all,
I found this article on the problems people are having with LCD monitors interesting: http://cloanto.com/users/mcb/19960719lcd.html Marc |
Marc, Thank you for sharing this.
A very interesting pattern emerging. I sent a message to the author referencing our [esens] group to give alternatives for dealing with their challenges. It seems that many, many more people are getting sick in front of LCD or CRT. Many more likely don't realize or voice their problems. Hello Marc,
if I buy a Flight Simulator, a note is attached which warns me for *video epilepsy*. The fast flickering of the colored pixels does this trick, and when you play f.i. *Doom*, you must go through tunnels, etc, and your eyes must follow, thus making you a bit nausea after some time. Normally, our brain works in an unorganized way. The videodisplay tries to make those brain processes to work in an organized way, and that causes some strain. In Japan, some children fell by *epilepsy* while sitting in front of a fast moving video. On the other hand, I found a lot of VLF frequencies coming out of unplugged monitors, also TFT monitors also. I must look into that further. The article is very interesting. Hi Charles!
> On the other hand, I found a lot of VLF frequencies coming out of unplugged > monitors, also TFT monitors also. > I must look into that further. > The article is very interesting. There is no VLF-radiation from totally unplugged monitors etc. ! The readings you get from your "HAARP Detector" (I guess it's that instrument you are playing with). I copy my answer from an earlier discussion with you (not commented by you at all!): "Regarding emissions from your TV: You said it yourself "It is known, that metal surfaces, like a dish, may work like a secondary antenna, but that is mainly on the front of the surface (reflexion), not at the back, as I have had here.". The metal parts inside your TV-set acts as an antenna. To test my theory, keep your "HAARP Detector" close to another metal object of about the same size as the TV or even a short cable (50-100cm). Maybe an unplugged micro or the unplugged satellite dish. It might be important that the metal object is positioned at the same place were the TV was when you got those unusual readings." Hello Anders,
I did what you asked. The metal surface did not radiate. But the unplugged and un-antennad TV set kept radiating. And an unplugged TFT monitor radiated. kept radiating. But, as I said, I have to look into this further. I want to check this in a compter store. I certainly found something peculiar. I have a battery operated LCD clock, which displays time, day, month, humidity, temp. It radiates enormously! Hi Charles,
I suggest that you build a simple "Faraday cage". Your instrument measures electric fields, so just make the cage out of a net with mesh width not larger than some 25mm. If you have a few meter of a suitable net, just wrap it around the TFT monitor and instrument and see if you still get any readings. As for your battery operated LCD clock: I'm not surprised that it emit electric fields! we do live inside a cage of Faraday. And I have extra shielded the television set, but to no evail. I myself do not have a TFT monitor, so I have to test them elsewhere, and shield them as well. your cage of Faraday is probably just not good enough! Earlier discussions on this list tells me that if your cage of Faraday is designed after those guidelines, then it's of poor quality! Well Anders,

Hi again, Charles,
do you remember our postings from February/Mars this year? If your "Faraday cage" is built using the guidelines you presented to us there, then it's no "Faraday cage" at all! My statement regarding totally unplugged TV-sets, TFT-monitors etc. is that they DO NOT RADIATE ANY EMF (chemicals they indeed emit). If they do so, then they contain something operated on some backup battery or backup capacitor! Greetings Anders Charles wrote: > Well Anders, > > you suggested *to build a simple "Faraday cage". * > > I do live in a heavy one. > And that is not good enough ??? > > It is not the cage of Farady, it is that the monitors are transmitting those > frequencies, with or without a cage. > > Greetings, > Charles Claessens > member Verband Baubiologie > www.milieuziektes.nl > www.hetbitje.nl > checked by Norton Antivirus > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Anders Eriksson" <[hidden email]> > To: <[hidden email]> > Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2004 11:05 > Subject: Re: [eSens] Article "LCD Display Discomfort" > > > >>Hi Charles, >> >>your cage of Faraday is probably just not good enough! >> >>Earlier discussions on this list tells me that if your cage of Faraday >>is designed after those guidelines, then it's of poor quality! >> >> >>Greetings >> >>Anders >> >>Charles wrote: >> >>>Hello Anders, >>> >>>we do live inside a cage of Faraday. >>> >>>And I have extra shielded the television set, but to no evail. >>> >>>I myself do not have a TFT monitor, so I have to test them elsewhere, > > and > >>>shield them as well. >>> >>> >>>Greetings, >>>Charles Claessens >>>member Verband Baubiologie >>>www.milieuziektes.nl >>>www.hetbitje.nl >>>checked by Norton Antivirus >>> >>>----- Original Message ----- >>>From: "Anders Eriksson" <[hidden email]> >>>To: <[hidden email]> >>>Sent: Friday, September 10, 2004 12:24 >>>Subject: Re: [eSens] Article "LCD Display Discomfort" >>> >>> >>> >>> >>>>Hi Charles, >>>> >>>>I suggest that you build a simple "Faraday cage". Not only LCD, but probably the so "highly-touted" LED displays radiate as well. After all, LIGHT ITSELF is electromagnetic radiation. (See HowStuffWorks - on the subject of "light". I know that the LED on my digital camera bothers me. So, I don't know why the heck so many people claim that inverters & alt-current are culprits in computer monitors... without also mentioning that the MONITORS' LIGHT ITSELF is culprit. So - I have a PC set up ie a box and 17inch lcd plus printer etc 2 ft from
my head in my bedroom. Not as bad as it seems as it always gets unplugged after use and my elec is offf at night. DO I STILL HAVE A PROBLEM HERE ? Perhaps ofgassing after use or something or perhaps parts of the circuitry acting like mini receivers transmitters ? what do you think. thanks PS can you reccomend a blanket to cover my visco elastic matress ie to stop volatising/offgassing ? Yes, light itself (such as natural sunlight) is electromagnetic radiation.
But it is essential for life and we could not exist without it. Similarly heat (infra-red) and many other items. It is not electromagnetic radiation that we should be worried about per se, but the particular frequencies that cause pain and distress to certain people. For most ES people these are in the microwave range. Unfortunately some ES people are affected as well by natural light (my wife, for example, especially the yellow part of the spectrum, so that late evening sun gives her problems). However, we can't turn off the Sun! The best thing is to find out which parts of the spectrum you are actually sensitive to and forget about the rest - it is enough of a problem being ES anyway! I don't know about all the parts, but the pc tower has a battery
which is always on. It causes me discomfort, even with everything else unplugged. The only time I've had relief from that, is when it's been out of the house for repairs. :) Don't know about the mattress. My thought would be to make an organic cotton futon, stuffing available at fabric stores, but not cheap of course. ~ Snoshoe --- In [hidden email], paulpjc@... wrote: > > So - I have a PC set up ie a box and 17inch lcd plus printer etc 2 ft from > my head in my bedroom. The white LED's are fluorescent, so that is something to consider as
well. Soon they all will be, if not yet. I posted a link about it a few months back. ~ Snoshoe --- In [hidden email], "minnimall" <minnimall@...> wrote: > > Charles, Anders, et al. > Not only LCD, but probably the so "highly-touted" LED displays > radiate as well. > > After all, LIGHT ITSELF is electromagnetic radiation. > (See HowStuffWorks - on the subject of "light". > > I know that the LED on my digital camera bothers me. > > So, I don't know why the heck so many people claim that inverters & > alt-current are culprits in computer monitors... without also > mentioning that the MONITORS' LIGHT ITSELF is culprit. > > Minni |
