Anyone else forced to use an old style ball mouse?

Who else is forced to use an old style ball mouse? I've been using Dell ball mice lately and I'm getting tired of it not always moving smoothly. I keep the rollers inside nice and clean to no avail.

Any suggestions on a different brand/model and where to buy it? I'm currently using it on a glass desktop and wondering if mouse pads might help, but most modern mouse pads are either designed for optical mice or made of soft foam that I won't tolerate (chemical sensitivity).

I'm not so sure I'm "forced" to use a ball mouse, but I do, because they obviously are less problematic.  Once I really tried to find a more modern mouse to use, and tried about 20 different types, but in the end I went back to my old ball mouse!

The right mousepad can make a difference... the rougher types are better.  I have a Corsair mousepad from Amazon that does a good job, although I'm not sure you'll tolerate it (I had no problem with it).

Which Corsair mouse pad? Using anything but a ball mouse makes my hand burn with in seconds. In your experimentation did you try any trackballs?

I did try a trackball, but there was an ergonomic issue for me, so it caused my hand to hurt.  That's the OTHER issue for me with trying different mice, is that the mouse I'm using now doesn't present me with any ergonomic issues.

Thanks for the thread. Came here looking for tips to buy a new mouse. since its winter and alots of time spent indoors.

Emil - I cant see what type of plug it is on the mice . does not look like usb. ?

I react to the IR mice. dont like it. lol.. i've scanned it with my radio.. check yourself. the signal goes all the way to the roof.

Want a ball mice with usb . if that is what you sell emil. I will buy

I use old Microsoft Intellimouse mice... there are PS/2 versions and USB versions.  They both have balls.  They can be found cheap on eBay.  The ones I have favor being right-handed, so if you are left-handed they probably won't work.

I've only ever been able to find optical Intellimouses (Intellimice??) on ebay. Do they just come up for sale occasionally?

I'm sure there are always old ball Intellimouse's on eBay, maybe also Amazon.  It's rare to find them "new in box" however.

For those who like trackballs (I do), the old CH products Trackball Pro is electronically identical to a mechanical mouse, with a large ball (think billiards cue ball) riding on 1/8" steel shafts, which can be replaced cheaply. Other mechanical trackballs (new ones) do still exist, also.

I modified mine to remove the processor, which I have remoted and shielded, with pi filtered signal lines to the trackball, and the processor optically isolated. So now I have only slowly changing analog signals at the trackball.

I had a look around at trackballs recently and couldn't find any mechanical ones. Do recall any of the new trackballs that are mechanical?

Trackballs are not for everyone and obviously old mechanical mice are a bargain in comparison. But I have MS and they are a marvel for me compared to mice.  I have been using my original modified CH Products Trackball Pro for over 20 years. I have replaced the 1/8" steel shafts twice (a common RC car axle) in that time.

I think the CST trackballs all use lasers.  I know of no other way to claim 1600 dpi accuracy.

Thanks. The CH is a bit too expensive for me at the moment but will keep it in the wish list. Would also be an expensive waste if it turned out I can't use it.

I have a 6 year old CST trackball that looks just like the above link, and is mechanical.
They certainly could have changed since then.

Might it be the CST1150 model you had? From the website:

Yes, thanks for the correction.  Marc's right, the other model isn't mechanical, it just looks similar.

I absolutely have to use a ball mouse because the Optical and Wireless Mouse make my hands go numb, make my arms ache really bad, I can feel volts going up my arm, and they make my Thyroid hurt.  

I have been forced to use the ball mouse because it is the only one available that has the least EMF's.   But unfortunately, just because it has lower EMF's than the Optical or Wireless mouse, does not mean it doesn't have any EMF's.  Even the shielded mice sold online are having leakage problems.

Some ball mice are worse than others.  If you are sensitive you can tell.  I have had a problem using some of the PS/2 ball mice because for some reason, the PS/2 to USB adapter seemed to be generating some kind of dirty electricity that was going up  my arm.  Some adapters are bad, some are okay.  But I found I experienced less EMF exposure with a straight USB connection.

Also, I had to get the wires of my computer and accessories away from the mouse because the mouse cord seemed to be picking up EMF's from them and then shooting them up my arm.  Try not to have computer and accessory cords near your body as they do generate EMF's and the EMF's can increase when the wires cross each other or are next to each other or on top of each other.

I tried using shielded gloves from Less EMF but they are not good for blocking out EMF's - and they don't do that well with RF either because the frequencies seemed to be going right through the little spaces in the weave of the fabric.  It is hard to block out magnetic frequency.

I am using a ball mouse right now, but I still suffer from it.  Sometimes my hands go numb and my arms ache from the EMF's and so I try to take a break for a few days.  But It is taking a toll on me and affecting other parts of my body.  The problem is, I am a computer addict, so I suffer just to use the computer, and I  will probably die from exposure to it.
