Another question

I was told when we got dsl to use the dsl filter. I was talking to a tech. about our speed, & that person told us to take he dsl filter off to speed it up.

We tried & I can't stand to use the computer w the filter off.

To use the filter for the phone only.  So, what is the story w filters?

We have not been able to pay for 2 lines to separate the signals.

I'm not sure I understand your question.  The filters are supposed to
be put in wherever there is a telephone, to filter out the DSL signal.

Where would you remove a filter from?  There should be no filter
between the phone jack and your DSL router, but there should be
a filter wherever there is a telephone.

So, we use a dsl filter on the jack before it connects to the router by mistake.

It helps me use the computer, so I'm keeping it on.

Maybe it filters some of the wi-fi.

Hmmm, putting the DSL filter BEFORE the router should (in theory)
prevent your router from working.  But I must admit I have never
tried such a thing.

You mean, stray wi-fi signals that are picked up by the telephone
lines?  I suppose it could do that too, although I would think
it would mostly make the DSL not work.

Our modem works okay.

Sometimes it kicks off 1 of the computers. So, why are some filters labeled w  dsl & some say phone?

I have been using a dsl filter since ever since we used dsl. My mistake but it still works.

It may filter out some of the dirty electric here,.  I put a filter that's labeled dsl at the jack.

but does slow us down sometimes.

Don't know if some of you want to try it.

I think filters labelled "DSL" don't actually filter
anything.   But there are many manufacturers of DSL filters,
so I can't say for sure unless I know exactly what you are
using (is there a brand name, product name, or product number
on the filter?)
