Hey everyone,
as was suggested (for an easy to find model in Canada) I got the AG Big Button Speakerphone from The Source by Circuit City. What I've found is, very, very little RF on an AM radio - although it's somehow picking up a bit of the sound of the data transfer from our cable modem (I can distinctly hear it with the radio, it seems to be transferred in some way through the phone line itself). So apart from the weird modem pickup, the phone itself seems very good in that regard. No real electric field to speak of. Not much magnetic field in the handset speaker, maybe a third of a milligauss. The speaker for speakerphone mode can put out up to 25 milligauss (!) at very close range - if you turn the volume all the way up, and that's thedial tone. I think at any practical, using-distance from the phone, even a foot or less, there's really not much magnetic field, unless you put yourhand over the speaker. Sound quality wise, I heard most people I test-called pretty clearly. The problem to which I refer is how they are hearing me. Most said they could hear me well enough, but some said I sounded a bit distant, one said it sounded like I was calling from the bathtub, and a few said there was some echo on my voice. Grr. I know it's a cheap enough phone, but come on! Can't they make it so the speakerphone mic works as well as the handset mic? I opened the phone's base up, found the microphone (near the bottom edge), and extended it out as far as it goes...maybe another two inches. It's encaspsulated in a small rubber block and looks like it's covered in some kindof mesh. I think this makes me easier to hear without having to stick my mouth to the phone, but... ...can anything be physically done to the microphone to eliminate the echo effect/far-away-bathtub sound? Just 'cause it's pretty good EMF-wise at any distance, doesn't mean it should sound like crap! Any advice is very welcome, Thanks! R. |

You're right - it does, in fact, have two thin wires.
