3G and GPS

jim65m
About 8 years ago I had a lot of trouble with ES. Florescent lighting cordless phones, talking on cell phones, some wifi really bothered me. I avoided many of the problematic things and have been able to live pretty well. I only used my cell phone for texting and very limited speaker phone use. I bought the phone in 2003. Recently, the phone broke so I had to upgrade. I got a 3G touch phone. I have never talked on it, only text. I have had it one week. It really bothers me to even be near it when on. If I have it in my car I get symptoms quickly. About a year ago my girlfriend bought me a Garmin GPS. It bothers me a lot when it is on also. I cannot figure out why. I have been told there is no transmission with a portable GPS? I don't know what the connection would be  between 3G AND GPS if any? Any thoughts or experiences?

I think you can still purchase 2G phones... I bought a 2G cellphone
(Tracfone LG100C / Verizon network) less than a year ago.  No 3G,
no touch screen.  Not too bad, ES-wise.

This is interesting, because, as you say, I thought these GPS units
merely received signals from GPS satellites, and do not
transmit anything.

Of course, ES folks can react to electronics that don't use wireless,
so you may just be reacting to the internal electronics of the GPS
receiver.  I know that I've reacted to all sorts of things that don't
have any wireless transmitters/receivers.

onceagain
I react to the lcd screens, but not the wireless signals which is another possibly.

This my experience. When I first saw a GPS in a car I was in, and thought that it had to interact with satellites, I was bothered. When I learnt that it doesn't, it stopped bothering me. :-)

I now understand that I couldn't help being bothered because it's my mind that was bothering me. To be more accurate, it's the aversion to anything that I perceive to be transmitting wireless signals—whether or not they actually do. Can't help it, because of the past trauma. I'm learning to be attentive to this trauma, so that the mind learns not to stress out itself!

My TomTom GPS system was purchased in 2007. Got very ill in 2010, and didn't know until 2011 that smart meters had fried me into electrohypersensitivity. Once I got away from smart meters and was well enough to start distinguishing sources of wifi I knew that my GPS system was a problem and stopped using it.

I bought an RF Meter several months ago. When someone told me that GPS systems were receivers only I couldn't believe it. So I got out my TomTom, and turned on my RF Meter.

My TomTom does nothing for a bit and then puts out a HUGE burst of RF. Maybe it is only a receiver, but it DOES put out radiation and it is NOT safe!

Most GPS nowadays do also have Blue Tooth on board.

But there are stille GPS types without Blue Tooth.

Ah... that may just be the missing link. Question is why do they need to be beaming any signal?

normally blue tooth can be disabled
some gps receivers that play mp3 music etc also have a weak transmitter for playing music  through the car radio on the FM band this too can be disabled
some gps also have systems that can receive real time local traffic status updates i am not sure how this happens might be some sort of sms system???

the best way is to monitor the gps system with an RF meter and find how much RF comes out from it and go from there

all the best
