neighbor's wireless networks

Marc Martin
Administrator
Hi all,

I just bought a new laptop computer for my wife. The first thing
I wanted to do when I turned it on was to disable the wireless
networking feature, as we don't have wireless networking nor
do I want wireless networking.

However, I was in for a bit of a surprise when I opened the
wireless networking control panel while in my kitchen -- we
had access to SIX wireless networks, presumably from my
neighbors! One of them was even unsecured, so I verified
that I could access the Internet from it.

So even if I'm looking after my own health by not having
wireless networking in my house, there is nothing I can
really do about all of my neighbors... other than move...

Oh well, that's what EMF protection devices are for,
I suppose...

Hi Marc,
It's the same for us. I've retired our wireless network but our
laptops can still access two different neighbor's wireless
networks -- if we turn on that capability on our laptops. The
neighbor's system is probably sending out some kind of
irritating signal either way, but if we turn off our laptop's wireless
capability what seems to happen is that effect on my husband's
ES is reduced. At least, we know that my husband instantly gets
a strong headache if I access the Internet wirelessly from my
laptop -- no wireless surfing = signifantly fewer splitting
headaches.

I don't doubt this, Charles. That's why I "killed" my wireless
network. It's like Marc said though -- we can turn off our own
wireless toys, but what do we do about our neighbors? Unless
we are all willing to move "off the grid" it seems like shielding or
EMF protection devices are our only option...
