Hi everyone,
I have to get a new mattress as my current boxspring mattress is starting to sink in the middle. I have MCS as well as ES so smells are an issue. I've researched and found Saatva which is covered with organic cotton, although the entire mattress isn't organic. Seems to have no odor from reviews. I know coils are supposed to be bad for ES but I have a bad back, sciatica and a bad shoulder and I'm a side sleeper. The bed is Chiropractor recommended. They also have a Talalay Mattress called Zenhaven which gets good reviews but I'm concerned the smell might bother me although reviews say it is a slight odor that goes away quickly. My chiro recommended the Saatva over the latex though. I hate buying things! Saatva also has a soft plush and medium firm. My shoulder may like the soft plush better but my hips would probably like the Luxury Firm. So confused. Any opinions, brand recommendations? The Saatva has a foundation that is wood but the frame under it is metal. |
I have a lot of trouble on coil mattresses. I'm also leery of metal beds. James From: "steve [via ES]" <[hidden email]> To: "James Bjerring" <[hidden email]> Sent: Friday, July 3, 2020 8:02:10 AM Subject: [ES] Mattress topic once again Hi everyone,

I've been using a Brentwood Extra Firm mattress for years (foam + memory foam, no metal), no problem with it but they don't make extra firm mattresses any more!
I had my eye on this as something to try in the future: http://tempflow.com/ Marc |

Extra firm wouldn't be good for my fibro

I find that both foam and latex mattresses outgas in a month or so. The Brentwood I foam mattress I ordered had no offgassing at all (and I'm very sensitive). It was CertiPUR certified, which may be the reason for that. May be something to look for.

I don't think a foam mattress would be good for my back. I also need a company that offers in home service, I don't think I could handle moving it to my bedroom by myself (I also need a foundation and frame) Steve

I don't have anything electric in my bedroom. I would assume the pillowtop would block some emfs if they exist

Actually, coil mattress is fine as long as there is very little electromagnetic radiation in your room.

Maybe a waterbed, a feather bed, a straw bed, or a good air mattress. Can you handle plastic? Silicone?
I'm highly tempted to make a beanbag-type bed and/or pillow filled with smooth slippery pebbles, or stones. Maybe like those rocks you can buy in little bags at the dollar store (maybe smaller). I don't know if it would be comfortable, but if so, I love the idea. They would need to be loose and light enough to slip around when you lay on them. Maybe a buckwheat hull or millet bed would be nice (like the buckwheat or millet pillows). I hear buckwheat pillows can stain pillowcases, though. If you get a feather bed, make sure you're not allergic to the feathers. |
