Best way to protect from computer's EMF assault

davidrsnell
The best thing to do is stay away from computers, I have to say.  Get others to do any computer work or cell phoning.

But I personally need to be on the computer for a while longer.  I've found that five steps can control much of the EMF:

-Interpose a sheet of metal between you and the laptop. I look over the sheet at my laptop screen.  My face isn't protected, but the rest of me is.

-Wear a car windshield protector under my sweater.  It's aluminum-coated bubble wrap, folded lengthwise.  I keep it fixed there by a combination of binder clips and tucking my sweater into my pants.

-Tucked into the windshield protector is a cookie pan bought at Dollar Tree for $1.  It's a magnetic material,  which helps deflect the magnetic component.

-Taped to the cookie pan is a gallon-sized plastic bag, filled with clay.  This protects my heart area quite nicely.
The clay is a natural material and somehow it is less harsh in its effects than metal or cloth protection.  The clay is heavy, but when I sit the pan rests on my thigh with no discomfort.

-Underneath it all is a shirt I hand-fashioned from the carbon Microwave Absorber material you can get at LessEMF.com.  This is also more natural than metal.

I find this combination of protections has restored my ability to work all day on a computer, as long as I stay 10-20 feet away.  This is done using these four techniques:

-The Logitech K400 keyboard, easily plugs into any Mac or PC's computer's USB port including a library computer.

-Wearable binoculars, they're about $20 at Amazon.com.  I keep them lightly pressed to my eye sockets with a rubber band I've cut, then tied to each earpiece.

-Adjusting the screen display resolution, e.g. from 1900x1200 to 1268x800. Works on PC or Mac.

-Adjusting the mouse pointer size to something much larger so I can see it. This works on PC or Mac too.

Hello David.

My Sweetheart is the EHS person in our household, but I will mention a few of the steps that we take that have improved things.

Do you know which kind(s) of EMF you are protecting yourself against?  Some of your strategies are focused on the RF frequencies (the LessEMF cloth) and others look like they are focused on the electric fields.

I did not see you mention using your laptop only when it is running on battery (ie, not plugged into the wall).  What we do is turn off the electrical breaker in the room, having two chromebooks (one is always charging in another room).  We use shielded ethernet cable.  She keeps the chromebook at least 4 inches away from her body, usually with a pillow, unless she is at her desk. This significantly reduced all the fields and discomfort and she can use this combination without any noticeable EHS symptoms.

If you must run your laptop while on electrical, then you might consider the Infrared 'low emf' keyboard/trackball that is available on some of the EMF clothing sites.  This is a retro product ... we used to use these two decades ago as the first 'wireless' solution.  It is pricey and might be finicky, but would give you some more distance.

If you have to type on the laptop directly, then choose an SSD (a solid state disk) instead of a regular hard disk, as it generates lower fields.  I still don't think that provide enough relief for you, but it may be worth noting in future.  The chromebooks come with SSD by default so that works well for us.

Of course, in all cases where you might be exposed to a 'wall wart' or computer power supply you want to keep those as far from your body as possible.  In fact, having no extension cords whatsoever is best.  Turing off the power to the room and running from battery is the only effective solution for us here.

I did not see you mention the wifi, bluetooth, cordless phones, cell phones all being removed and smart meter shielded, but assume you do that as well.  In our house, such RF radiation is quite a bit more painful than the low frequency EM fields.  Do you actually measure your ambient RF?  If you have the monetary resources, the Acousticom 2 is something I highly recommend.  We use it to 'sweep' all our guests so that we verify their devices are not actively engaging.  It can be surprising, but unless you measure you might have various rogue devices be blaring WIFI signals, such as modern laser printers often do.  We also turned off various OS knobs of PCs that would otherwise allow them to attempt WIFI connections periodically when they were otherwise suspended.

We have tried cookie pans (stainless steel) and found no difference with the measurement tools nor the muscle testing.

We have found that mylar sheets (ie, space blankets) covering a window in a single layer do reduce incoming RF signals, but generally would need a double layer for that to really reduce the signal, but then they become completely light blocking, which is not desirable.  One note is that if you have an RF-generating devices inside, then they will bounce off the mylar and rebound into the space, making it even worse for you.  We live in a metalized house (metal roofing, low E glazing on windows and foil-faced foamboard insulation) so almost no external WIFI/Cell signals enter and it remains a sanctuary.

The EMF clothing has worked, but is very pricey.  The only way Sweetheart can go out in public is wearing both an EMF coveralls plus a SwissShield Naturell fabric wrapped as a head-covering shawl.  And travel in the car requires a third layer of a complete sleep sack.  Even with all this, she winces with discomfort as we get within about 1/4 mile of highway cell towers or high voltage powerline parallel the road.

Finally, we have one spot in the house, near the circuit panel which she cannot pass by without pain.  She finds that she takes more than 24 hours to recover from walking down this particular hallway, so effectively parts of the house are off limits for her unless we shut down the power for the whole house.

Finally, I would recommend your sleeping area (presumably not the same as the place where you use your computer during wakeful times) have the circuit breaker turned off every night.  It may work wonders for you, as your body healing gets done at that time.  My memory has definitely improved since we started doing this without fail every evening.

Best of luck with it.
Ken

Thanks Ken, that's a lot of interesting information.  I'll print out what you wrote and do some research and testing of these ideas.  Best of luck helping your sweetheart emerge victorious in her anti-EMF battle.
