Acousticom 2 Ticking Sound

sailplane
Does anyone know anything about the TickTickTick sound when the Acousticom gets in the red range?
I can't figure out what this sound means or where it comes from. Is it generated by the Acousticom itself?.. It seems so , like an audible sound when in the red range, but it's not very consistent, sometimes it goes in the red without ticking very much, sometimes ticks more, and just a slight movement of the meter can cause the ticking to stop. So I believe it's generated by the meter but I couldn't find any info about it, and contacting the EMFields didn't get any response..

yes i noticed from the first time i saw this meter in action in YouTube videos.
It seems like the meter makes additional sounds for some reason.
It obscures the sound that is interesting to hear.
I hope it has a real function and it wasn't just implemented for
randomly indicating high levels.
Do you think it is an indicator for when levels are
very high, higher than the LED's can show ?
If it isn't useful, that would be unfortunate,
in that case maybe a techie could disable it.

It is a warning signal , impossible to shut off, and indeed extremely annoying and ridiculous.
I had one and lent it out 2 years ago, the borrower says he can not find it but keeps on looking.
anyway, it is an overpriced crap meter, both very unreliable and no fun to use.

Having used an Acousticom 2 briefly I think I remember the ticking can be turned off. From the manual...

"You may disable the alarm clicks
that indicate “higher exposure”
levels. To do this, do not release
the button until the LED start up
display has completed."
